British Institutes has developed the Young Learner examinations for primary and lower secondary school children.

The principal aim of the Young Learner examinations, other than the fair and accurate assessment of  language ability, is to encourage and reward young learners from an early age and at each step of the learning experience.  They are designed to create a positive first experience of language examinations.

Our Young Learner examinations test competence in the four main skills: writing, reading, listening, and speaking and have a motivating and appealing structure.

The syllabi, on which our Young Learners examinations are based, contain topics that arouse students’ curiosity and stimulate their desire to learn and experience the English language, placing the emphasis on expressiveness, creativity, imagination, analysis, processing, reasoning and curiosity.

The YL examinations, in addition to motivating young people to study English and making them aware of their own abilities, also create a ‘bridge’ leading to British Institutes General English certification for adults and secondary school and university students; a certification that is usable and valid throughout Europe.
